In the United States it is highly unlikely that the government will fund new arts buildings and so it is left to private investors however the ownership of arts buildings provides little profit to the investors, which is why many places like Cape Coral lack any sort of arts community.

Fort Myers is an old town with many old buildings that are protected and were built purely for their intended use (such as a theatre) in a time when the rich were more eager to invest in arts buildings and communities because the arts were seen as a culture for the upper class. The arts buildings found in Fort Myers are almost entirely built within old buildings around the town.

The art spaces within the town do not only provide an area for people to express themselves but also for people to join as a community. Art in all forms brings people together.
