FORT MYERS

Downtown Cape Coral has a range of  pathways that run alongside the roads however there are none that follow into the blocks away from the main roads. The pathways also rarely follow the roads

into the residential areas and remain focussed around Cape Coral Parkway.

Downtown Fort Myers is a lot more densely packed with roads however they are for the most part single lane that do not encourage traffic, the paths that accompany those roadways are often

busy and provide a maze of pathways both next to the roads and followed into courtyards within the bocks of infrastructure. There are also more parks and areas that are entirely pedestrian only.

Taking the power and isolation of transport through the use of cars creates a more inviting environment that can be more community driven.

To get people walking, I think cities also need better wayfinding along safe routes; seating to encourage use of public space (and give walkers somewhere to rest); trees to provide shade; and more public toilets
